BROWNSVILLE - An illegal immigrant and Texas prison gang member has been charged with using Craigslist to recruit drivers to transport illegal immigrants within the Rio Grande Valley, by his accounts for the Gulf Cartel. According to a March 15 criminal complaint, Diaz told investigators he had arranged for transport of thousands of illegal immigrants during the past year using 30 drivers he hired through Craigslist. Homeland Security Investigations agents had been investigating the postings since August 2011 and used Internet addresses to track the data to a McAllen apartment rented by Diaz's wife.

Fourteen people were shot outside a Miami funeral when gunmen opened fire on a crowd of mourners, leaving a scene that one witness described as "a war zone," authorities said Saturday. The shots were fired Friday at about 9:35 p.m. as services were taking place at the Funeraria Latina Emanuel, about 10 miles north of the city's downtown, the Miami-Dade Police Department said. There was a crowd of mostly young adults who had gathered in front of the funeral home when a car drove by and opened fire.

It's no secret that publishers are scrambling to find ways of making money online. On the subscription/paywall side, a startup called MediaPass wants to help, and it just raised $1.75 million in Series B funding. If publishers want to start offering subscriptions, MediaPass CEO Mathew Mitchell says that developing their own technology would probably take months of work and could cost in the seven figures.
